In which Canucks fans hit Blackhawks van with sledgehammer

It's undeniable that Vancouver Canucks fans have a touch of the Cup Fever this spring and that, by and large, many of them are already quite insane. (Case in point.)

So to help the fans get amped before Wednesday night's Game 1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, radio station Rock 101 appealed to their primal instincts by allowing Canucks fans to destroy a "Blackhawks Van" with a sledgehammer:

Wow, who knew Ed Helms had that much pent-up aggression? That video was via Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune.

The promotion was titled "Crush For The Cup," in which the station's 1974 Econoline van was repainted as a Blackhawks mobile, and fans that paid a $10 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation were given three swings with a sledgehammer. Carnage for charity; who doesn't love that?

But demolishing an automobile for charity is just one aspect of the fandamonium in Vancouver: Witness the shameless cheeseball self promotion of the What Would You Do? contest, co-sponsored by Best Buy and The Province. Fans submitted minute-long pledges to perform certain duties if they won suite-level tickets to the finals this postseason. Pledges such as the one from Edwin, the manager from Best Buy Surrey:

Uh, yeah. No matter what you think of that dude, at least he's not pledging a full body wax performed by a hand puppet. Or performing other unspeakable acts with a hand puppet ... like singing original acoustic songs about the Canucks. "Vigneault's hard to say/But I hope he's here to stay." Eat your heart out, Woody Guthrie.
