2011 NBA Draft: Houston Rockets Take Youthful Talent Tyler Honeycutt at No. 23

2011 NBA Mock Draft Houston Rockets Find A Multi-Faceted Youngster in Tyler Honeycutt

The Houston Rockets grabbed Kenneth Faried with the No. 14 pick in the first-round and take a bit of a risk with Tyler Honeycutt, who's versatile, but needs to add weight and polish.

To be a productive pro, Honeycutt will need to improve his 1-on-1 skills and must bulk up. He's 6'8'', 185, which won't cut it in the NBA.

He was an efficient scorer during his time at UCLA and is an underrated rebounder.

He's more than capable as a passer, too. I'd still like to see more offensive aggression.

Here's what ESPN's Chad Ford had to say about Honeycutt in the NBA. He makes an interesting point:

He had a few big games for UCLA, but a lot of underwhelming ones as well. But NBA GMs and scouts have had a harder time scouting players in Ben Howland's system. Considering that virtually every prospect he's produced has gone on to have success in the NBA and when you factor in Honeycutt's significant skills, there's a very good chance Honeycutt ends up going somewhere in the first round.

Very true. Aaron Afflalo, Russell Westbrook and Jrue Holiday instantly come to mind. Honeycutt needs a bit more work than all of those players, but he has the promise to a very good NBA'er.
