The United States was surely packing their bags to make the long trip home with a loss from Brazil in the FIFA Women's World Cup. Those were the thoughts by many fans and millions of people watching across the world on ESPN yesterday. Those thoughts quickly vanished in the 122nd minute of extra and added time with a long cross from Meagan Rapinoe straight to the head of 32-year-old Abby Wambach. The header by Wambach found its home in the goal and was the equalizer for the game evening each team at two goals each.
By now, everyone knows what happened next, but in case you live under a rock, the game went into penalty kicks. At the end of the game, the United States was victorious by making five penalty kicks to Brazil’s four. Some of you may wonder, what happened to the one Brazil missed? The answer I have for you can be said in two words. Hope Solo.
Hope Solo is the goal keeper for the United States and read the third PK attempt by Brazil perfectly, making the diving save at the right post.
This is a very exciting time in all of their lives, but it was shown majorly by Solo on her Twitter account earlier today. This is what she had to say:

Never has a team come back to win from a man down, a goal down and in such dramatic fashion. Last night I had a moment as I sat waiting for the penalties. I felt the energy of the stadium, I witnessed how far the game has risen and I felt the spirit of our team as we fought together, unwilling to lose, our backs against the wall. Last night is a feeling you work your whole life for. To break free. To write your own destiny. And That's what WE, this 2011 USA team have set out to do, to write OUR OWN story. Go ahead, jump on the bandwagon and let's do this together. One Nation, One World, One Team.”
For the hours following the game, the U.S. women’s team was riding solely on adrenaline from winning the game in such exciting fashion. Are you surprised? They scored the latest goal ever in Women’s World Cup history! I’d say that is pretty suspenseful!
Many citizens home in the United States have now rallied behind this American team in hopes that they will repeat what the U.S. team did in 1999, which is win the World Cup.
The ladies cannot stay hooked on this victory over Brazil, because they have still yet to meet their ultimate goal. That goal is to bring home another World Cup Championship for the U.S.A.
The United States are set to take on France on Wednesday at 6 P.M. and that game can be found on ESPN.
