Mike Commodore 64: Red Wings give blessing, pledges surging

Last week, we gave a little push to the movement getting Mike Commodore to wear No. 64 with the Detroit Red Wings, as a homage to the classic desktop computer. This came after Commodore himself referenced the idea, which has been kicked around by pop culture obsessed fans for most of his NHL career.

Along with our request for a "COMMODORE 64" jersey came a plea: We'd donate $64 to the charity of Mike's choosing if he wore that sweater with the Wings next season. We mentioned the possibility of Puck Daddy readers matching that pledge, and it's been an honor to witness the response.

Now for the cool news: The Red Wings tweeted on Saturday that it's Commodore's call to pick his number for next season. From the Wings:

"Equipment Manager Paul Boyer says that if [Commodore] wants to wear 64, it's all his."
