UFC 137 Fight Card: Matt Mitrione vs. Cheick Kongo Set to Fight

Prepare for fireworks as two of the heavyweight division’s biggest hitters will battle at UFC 137 when Matt Mitrione goes to war with Cheick Kongo. ESPN reports that the fight will be a part of the main card scheduled for October 29 in Las Vegas, NV.

Mitrione and Kongo are each coming off of big wins at UFC on Versus 4, but they came in very different ways.

While Mitrione dominated and violently knocked out Christian Morecraft early in the card and Kongo had to fight off being rocked numerous times to answer back with a knockout of his own over Pat Barry.

Mitrione is looked at as one of the biggest up-and-coming prospects in the entire company, particularly in a depleted heavyweight division that has gone through quite a few injuries and illnesses to top stars in recent months.

Of course, Kongo has been on the cusp of being a title contender for years now and is attempting to get back into the mix. His victory over Pat Barry was somewhat controversial in that some believe the fight should have been stopped, but the come-from-behind victory was also a big moment that fans will remember for a long time to come.

Mitrione and Barry are training partners so the former NFL player will not only be looking to advance his own career, but also avenge his friend’s loss.

The UFC 137 card is getting better and better. The Mitrione-Kongo bout will be a great leadup to the scheduled main event between Nick Diaz and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
