WSOP Results Recaps Andrew Badecker's Stunning Victory In $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout
Andrew Badecker is a 23-year old poker player from Connecticut that shocked the world with his victory in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout event.
Badecker sat down at a final table that featured four players that had won WSOP bracelets previously. Those players included Erik Cajelais, Dan Kelly, Vitaly Lunkin, and David Pham, who have totaled over $6 million in poker winnings combined.
The most shocking part about the final table was that four of the first five players to be eliminated were former WSOP champions. Erik Cajelais finished the highest among the former winners when he finished in fifth-place.
Badecker's victory marked the 13th straight victory at the WSOP by a player that had never won a bracelet previously. No big name professional has won an event at this year's WSOP. Gus Hansen came the closest to that feat as he came in third place in the heads-up shootout.
Badecker had cashed three times previously in WSOP events but this was hit first final table appearance. It was a great story for Badecker, who was an online poker professional who was devastated by the events of "Black Friday" when Full Tilt, Absolute Poker, and Poker Stars were all shut down in the United States.
