2011 NBA Draft Grades Looks At The Morris Brothers and Their NBA Future
Last night was a moment that neither Marcus or Markieff Morris will ever forget.
Everyone knew both players would be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft, but for both Kansas big men to go off of the board in consecutive picks was a special moment for fans of the game and for their family.
Markieff, who had been projected around the middle of the draft, went first to Phoenix, and his brother, who had aspirations of going in the top 10, went to Houston right after.
While the turn of events may have been shocking for those who had been following the draft, the Suns knew what people had come to realize during the weeks and months building up to that moment ? that Markieff will be the better NBA player down the line than his brother could hope to be.
Marcus has more polish to his offensive game, there is no denying that, but he lacks the raw athleticism of his brother, and all it takes is a time and patience for that offensive game to come around, and the Suns will have a monster on their hands.
If you're a team that already has an interior presence like Houston, you can afford to take a player like Marcus and allow him to fit in with the rest of the lineup. However, for a team like Phoenix, who needs a dominant presence, getting Markieff will be the start of a new era for the franchise.
Running him out there with Steve Nash and the rest of the Suns will allow him to play without the pressure of being the man, and with Nash's passing talents, Morris will get some easy buckets and get into the groove of the game.
Markieff would have struggled if he had to be the man from day one, but going to a team like the Suns, with an established leader, will be a move that pays major dividends for Phoenix.
Marcus will be good in Houston, don't get me wrong, but Markieff will be great.
