UFC 131 Results: Did Sam Stout Just Deliver the KO of the Year on Yves Edwards?

UFC veteran Sam Stout surprised quite a few fans and even some experts tonight by absolutely lighting up his opponent Yves Edwards, with a perfect one-punch knockout at UFC 131.

But just how good was the knockout? Was it the best yet in 2011?

As my B/R MMA colleague Andrew Mahlmann showed a couple weeks back, we have already seen some amazing knockouts this year, but perhaps none has been as crisp and clean as the counter-punch Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout landed on the jaw of Yves Edwards.

Travis Browne’s knockout of Stefan Struve and Brendan Schaub’s knockout of Mirko “Cro Cop” were both excellent one-punch knockouts which have to be considered two of the best.

Or think about Anderson Silva’s Steven Seagal-inspired front kick knockout of Vitor Belfort at UFC 126. Or how about Silva’s training partner, Lyoto Machida, who did his own front kick which was more like the “crane kick” from The Karate Kid?

All of them were great, but Stout’s knockout at 131 is absolutely right up there.

After taking a shot from Edwards, Stout landed a brutal, picture-perfect left hook that sent Edwards to the canvas. His eyes instantly rolled into the back of his head and Stout knew it was over.

This has been an awesome year for knockouts already and it’s only getting better!
