As many are aware, every WWE superstar, save a small handful, made the trip to Japan for the company's biannual tour.
No matter the setting, we're accustomed to seeing our favorite WWE wrestlers in their usual getup and gear. This unwritten axiom relating to in-ring apparel applies to even the promotion's top star, John Cena.
Yet, as opposed to seeing the 10-time WWE champion in his customary cap, T-shirt, armbands and either jean or camo shorts, members of the Japanese faithful saw him wearing something entirely different.
Cena's garb can only be described as a surreal flashback to the 1980s. As chronicled by 411mania.com, he wore a silver "Ribera" jacket and vintage, red/white Zubaz pants (click here and here to gaze unblinkingly for hours in astonishment).
One would modestly assume that the jacket is an homage to the Japanese steak house, which is reputedly so incredible it attracts globetrotters.
The psychedelic pants, besides being known to cause dangerous hallucinations, are a little more challenging to figure out. Nonetheless, if you look closely enough, you'll notice a San Francisco 49ers emblem on them, which is probably just a coincidence unless Cena has disavowed his home state—and could you blame him if he did?
That being said, John Cena's mind-addling attire is probably just a one-time thing. Next week on Monday Night Raw, our senses will once again be in familiar territory the moment Cena's music blares over the loud speakers.
