Stephen Curry Injury: Warriors Guard Suffers Painful Ankle Injury vs. Kings

The Golden State Warriors haven't even embarked on the regular season yet, and point guard Stephen Curry is already dealing with an ankle injury.

In case you missed it, Curry went down in pain during tonight's preseason tilt against the Sacramento Kings. He was done in by a Jimmer Fredette crossover and had to be helped off the court.

Here's how ESPN.com basketball writer Diamond Leung described the incident:

It gets worse. What is significant is not so much that Curry hurt an ankle, but which ankle he hurt. For that scoop, here's Henry Wofford of CSNBayArea.com:

Why is it significant that Curry hurt his right ankle, you ask?

Because he had surgery on it during the offseason. And worse, a report from the San Francisco Chronicle explained at the time that the surgery was done to strengthen Curry's right ankle.

It seems that the surgery isn't working very well.

Until further notice, there's no point in sugarcoating this. Curry is arguably the Warriors' best player, and they need him healthy if they are to have any chance of getting off to a good start in 2011-2012. And because Curry is dealing with an ankle injury, the Warriors should be concerned about his long-term health.

Ankle injuries plagued Curry throughout the 2010-2011 season. He sprained his right ankle several times and ended up missing eight games because of his wounds. The Warriors were obviously hoping that surgery would correct the problem, but that is not the case.

Hopefully, this will be nothing more than a rolled ankle or a mild sprain, injuries that won't sideline Curry for long. But given the beating that Curry's right ankle has already taken, and given the surgery he had on it over the offseason, something a little more serious cannot be ruled out.

It could be worse, folks. Via the Warriors' official Twitter feed, here's the latest:

So for now, it seems Curry managed to dodge a major injury. Wednesday's exams could reveal otherwise, but the initial diagnosis could be much worse.

Or maybe not. CSNBayArea.com's Matt Steinmetz had a conflicting report later on Tuesday night:

Very interesting. Until Wednesday, hold your breath.
