New England Patriots: Kraft Wants Logan Mankins to Retire as a Patriot

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft may not be in the annual NFL owners meeting in New Orleans, LA, but another Kraft is present: Patriots' president Jonathan Kraft.

While at the annual meeting, Kraft announced some questions from reporters in the afternoon down in the Big Easy.

One of the "hot topics" regarding the New England Patriots is the current contract situation with Patriots' offensive lineman Logan Mankins. And, as expected, reports questioned Kraft on the current status between both parties.

"I think the agent, in this case, feels rhetoric helps to get deals done. We feel like we put a very fair offer on the table. We would like Logan to be a Patriot, retire a Patriot. He's a great football player. But we're not allowed to talk to Logan or his agent until all of this [labor situation] gets resolved."

The offer that New England has offered Mankins is the franchise tag, which is a one-year contract worth about $10 million, and Mankins has yet so sign the contract, and wont until a new labor deal is set in place.

It's obvious that Mankins' agent, Frank Bauer, is trying to destroy the relationship between Mankins and the Patriots' front office, but I believe Mankins wants to stay a Patriot and continue to protect quarterback Tom Brady.

No contract will get done until the NFL lockout and labor situation is resolved.
