Video: ‘I’m a Caps Fan’ rap anthem surprisingly mentions Crosby

Remy Munasif is a song humorist and YouTube star from Northern Virginia, famous for such efforts as "Saudis in Audis." Comcast SportsNet commissioned him to write a Washington Capitals rap anthem, and "I'm a Caps Fan" debuted after last night's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

As you can see from the screenshot above, which would be the Sidney Crosby setting on Remy's Xbox controller, it contains oh so many of the attributes that make Capitals fans divisive in NHL fandom: The singular obsession with the Pittsburgh Penguins; snarking on the Southeast Division; and the sense that a few of them are somewhat new to the NHL, in that they think Dale Hunter is an outdoorsman series on VERSUS.

That said … the song's also fracking hilarious and clever, with a rather high puckhead intelligence quotient. We're talking references to bongos, Jagr, Mike Milbury's GM prowess and 20-Cent.

Here's Remy with "I'm a Caps Fan," featuring a cameo appearance by someone who can buy and sell you 100 times over and still have money left over to buy the WNBA:

If this wasn't your cup of joe, The Pensblog offers its rebuttal/review, beginning with the fact that Remy namechecks a Playstation yet owns an Xbox.

You know, we had to give props to "The Caps Rap" back in the day for name-checking Mike Gartner's mustache. But "I'm a Caps Fan" made a reference to Alex Semin taking an untimely penalty during the shootout. So we must bestow upon Remy the title of Unofficial Rap Anthem of the Washington Capitals, despite his apparent reluctance to make a single memorable Bruce Boudreau joke on the track. How hard is it to rhyme Hagen-Dazs?
