MMA News: A New Contender Emerges in the Knockout of the Year Battle

On Friday July 8, Arthur Guseinov delivered a perfectly timed and perfectly placed spinning backfist that left his opponent, Tyson Jeffries, crumbled unconscious in the center of the M-1 Challenge ring.

The five fight M-1 Challenge Card took place from the The Hangar at the Orange County Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. Four of the five fights did not last past the second round.

Recently, many MMA websites released their mid-year awards with knockouts by the likes of Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Cheick Kongo, Sam Stout and Patricky Pitbull dominating those lists, and while we are only a few days removed from the publication of those lists, the recent UFC 132 fight card and Friday's M-1 card look like they are setting the bar fairly high for the second half of 2011 lists.

On that short, but sure to grow, list are knockouts by Chris Leben over Wanderlei Silva, Carlos Condit over Dong Hyun Kim and now Guseinov, with his almost nonchalant spinning backfist.

Guseinov (8-2) made his U.S. debut on the July 8 card and gave American mixed martial arts fans something to remember him by with the victory.
