You do not, and I repeat DO NOT, want Giants closer Brian Wilson to negatively rage. He will not just rage against the machine, he will rage against the machine carrying a Louisville Slugger.
The eccentric closer is fueled by his empowering and continuously growing beard, which has to be considered the brains behind the operation.
In case you missed Wilson announcing the starting lineup prior to the opening pitch of the All-Star Game, he or perhaps his beard, lobbied for his San Francisco front office to trade for New York Mets right fielder Carlos Beltran. He continued to endorse the deal in his highly entertaining postgame interview with ESPN?s Pedro Gomez.
This rumor picked up steam last week, but the wheels really started to roll over the weekend as the Mets and Giants finished off the first half of the season with a three-game series in San Francisco.
The Giants fans, front office, Wilson and his beard all saw firsthand what could be in store for them with Beltran in the heart of the lineup?back to back World Series Championships.
It almost seems inconceivable that the Giants could actually make it back to the World Series given the roster assembled in Philadelphia, but Beltran could actually get this team over the hump.
The Giants took down the Phillies and Cliff Lee last year, so there?s no reason to believe they cannot do so again.
Beltrain is currently enjoying a fantastic bounce back season, clearly highlighted by his first ballot All-Star selection. He is hitting .285 with 13 HR and 58 RBI, which is more than the Giants could even dream of from their right field platoon at this point in the season.
It is a beneficial move for both parties. Clearly, Beltran heads to a contender. Yet for San Francisco, they know they?re getting somebody who has seen these Phillies pitchers time and time again in the NL East. More importantly, they land a highly determined and motivated player to succeed at the plate and in the outfield as he tries to secure another hefty contract in the offseason.
It is a win-win situation, especially for San Francisco. Beltran gives them a great opportunity to repeat as World Series Champs.
Just as vital, Brian Wilson and his beard will positively rage after giving his blessing of the deal. Nobody in the front office wants Wilson and his beard to rage against them, that?s for sure. He rages to the extreme like no other man in the Majors. He might start tossing San Fran executives into McCovey Cove if they fail to land Beltran for a couple of mid-level prospects.
The time is now to secure the path back to the World Series?Wilson told us that last night when he lobbied for Beltran?s services.
