Hello, Bleachers! Long time no see...
I'm back in time for the WWE's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view taking place tomorrow night. An idea came to me this morning that was actually brought up by one of the divas a couple of years ago. I can't recall who mentioned it, but it involves the women of the WWE having their very own Elimination Chamber match, fighting it out for the title in the chamber.
Naturally, and needless to say, the divas are not competing in such a brutal, in-your-face match. As of now, it's looking like there won't even be a regular match involving the women tomorrow night. That's sad. Why can't the girls play, WWE? They can fight just as hard as the men...well, at least some of them can.
An all-diva Elimination Chamber match really should have happened by now. We're in the 21st century, after all! We've seen two divas table matches in the past seven years. We've seen the first-ever divas steel cage match that involved Lita and Victoria—on RAW, shockingly enough. Also, although not on WWE TV but at their former training camp OVW, we've had a championship divas ladder match featuring Beth Phoenix and Katie Lea.
So, again, I ask...why can't the WWE give the ladies a chance to shine in the chamber? It would be great, groundbreaking, and a way to get a new champion. Just imagine, Eve in there, having to defend her title against the likes of Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Melina, Maryse and Gail Kim...I might have tossed Tamina in there in place of one of the faces just to see her perform a Superfly splash from the top of one of the chambers, but I digress...
This match would have also been better a couple of years ago, when the WWE still had Mickie James, Katie Lea and Jillian. I would absolutely have paid money to see them in a chamber match along with Melina, Beth and Natalya—or Gail Kim, or even Michelle McCool.
Actually, another nice scenario—after the travesty that occurred in the fatal fourway Divas Championship match last month at the Royal Rumble—would be to have any combination of four of the latter divas from two paragraphs up and—wait for it—Awesome Kong competing in the chamber. Come on, we've all been waiting for Kong's debut, and who wouldn't want to see that?!
Unless I'm mistaken, there was no announcement last night on SmackDown about Eve defending the title this Sunday. It would be nice—doubtful, of course, but nice nonetheless—if the WWE surprised us by springing on an all-diva Elimination Chamber match. Also nice would be if a new Divas champion was crowned.
It's not that I dislike Eve or have anything against her...I just don't see any reason at all why she should have been awarded the title. But again, I digress. Here's hoping we see something out of the divas tomorrow night, and that Awesome Kong will finally debut.
