Chicago's Joel Quenneville hospitalized; Haviland takes over vs. Wild

Chicago Blackhawks assistant coach Mike Haviland will be acting head coach tonight at home in a pivotal game against the Minnesota Wild, as the team announced some distressing news about coach Joel Quenneville this morning:

"Joel presented severe discomfort late last night at his home in suburban Chicago. He went to the emergency room and was admitted early this morning.

He is currently in stable condition and is being treated for an undisclosed health concern today, not of cardiac nature. Further testing is ongoing and we will provide an update when possible."

Said Blackhawks Vice President/General Manager Stan Bowman of Quenneville, 52:

"We certainly wish Joel a speedy recovery and we will do everything possible to support him and his family throughout the process."

We'll update with further clarification as it comes in. Meanwhile, from the Dept. of Oddly-Timed headlines: "Quenneville: Gut-check time for Hawks."
