D.C. United re-acquires Fred to boost midfield
D.C. United announced Friday afternoon that it has re-acquired Brazilian midfielder Fred from the New England Revolution for a second-round pick in the 2013 MLS draft. D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper: "He will make our already deep midfield that much deeper and give us a great attacking player who can create and score goals. Fred is very motivated to return to D.C." Fred spent three seasons with United from 2007 to 2009, playing primarily on the flanks. He contributed seven goals and eight assists in 2007, but had a combined four goals and eight assists in the two seasons before he was traded. In January 2010, United traded him to the Philadelphia Union as part of the deal to re-acquire goalkeeper Troy Perkins. Fred, 31, played in 25 games and made 24 starts for the Union, totaling four goals and an assist. After last season, New England selected Fred
