The Tar Heels of North Carolina cruised to a 97-48 blowout win over Evansville in front of the home crowd Tuesday night.
Carolina just had too much size underneath the basket for Evansville (3-4) to compete. Carolina out rebounded the Aces, 59-26.
Sophomore forward Harrison Barnes led the Heels with 17 points, hitting 5-of-9 attempts and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
UNC (7-2) played exceptional team defense, holding the Aces to 25.8 percent shooting and forcing 16 turnovers.
Carolina came out of the gate running, with baskets by Tyler Zeller, John Henson, Barnes and consecutive dunks by Dexter Strickland. Just over four minutes in the game, the Heels led 10-3.
UNC continued to push the ball on offense, and with 9:57 left in the first half, Carolina pushed the lead out to 26-9.
Evansville never had an answer and was unable to hit consistently from outside the arc, hitting just six of their 27 three-point attempts.
Carolina never let up, and by halftime, took a 52-22 lead into the locker room after sophomore guard Kendall Marshall hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.
UNC came out in the second half with a 10-0 run, pushing the lead to 62-22 and never looked back.
Junior forward John Henson was spectacular on both ends of the court, hitting five of his six attempts, scoring 13 points with 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Senior forward Tyler Zeller added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the game. Sophomore forward Reggie Bullock came off the bench and had a spectacular game, scoring 15 points off of 4-of-7 three point attempts.
Freshman forward James Michael McAdoo came off the bench to score 10 points, and freshman forward Desmond Hubert grabbed eight rebounds for the Heels.
Freshman guard P.J. Hairston hobbled off the court late after rolling his ankle. Hairston never returned.
Next up for the Heels, a home game against Long Beach State Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m.
