Hank Aaron: David Letterman Chats With Former Home Run King Aaron

Hank Aaron Discusses Some Of The Ways That Baseball Could Be Made Even Better On David Letterman's Show

Hank Aaron paid a visit to "The Late Show With David Letterman" last night and discussed a number of different topics including ways to make the game of baseball better, how the game has changed over the years and Willie Mays.

Of all the topics they discussed, the best one was Aaron's recalling the moments after he hit his record-breaking 715th home run. For those that aren't aware, he received numerous death threats and hate mail for a long time before he even got to the record. The night that he broke the record there was extra security at Fulton County Stadium just in case someone tried something. After he hit the home run, two kids ran onto the field and no one was quite sure what was going to happen. It turned out that they were just fans and wanted to congratulate him on the moment.

He talked about seeing his mom standing at home plate waiting for him as he was rounding the bases.

"God bless her, she got to home plate before I could get to first base. I don't know what happened, I could see her out of the corner of my eye, and she was so happy," Aaron said. "I was excited about her being there."

Aaron was there to promote the new set of Topps baseball cards that were coming out. He is such a great interview because he always gives these amazing stories about what it was like when he played, and he does it with such an elegance and grace about him. There are times when it doesn't seem like he gets the proper credit for being a great player because people want to compare him to Babe Ruth, but make no mistake about it he is one of the great athletes and humanitarians of all-time.
