Eleven minutes ago, LSU media director Michael Bonnette tweeted that both QB Jordan Jefferson and LB Josh Johns have been reinstated and will begin practice tomorrow. This stemming from the news that their respective battery charges had been reduced to simple battery, which is only a misdemeanor.
Where does this leave LSU now.? QB Jarrett Lee has assumed the role of starting quarterback for the No. 1 ranked LSU Tigers. Jefferson was the presumed three year starter before his current legal troubles came to light.
Now, head coach Les Miles is faced with the ultimate dilemma. Miles unequivocally praised Jefferson for his maturity and growth under the tutelage of QB coach Steve Kragthorpe. Since Jefferson's suspension, Lee has proven to be a more than capable quarterback while leading his team to a 4-0 record, including a 3-0 record over three top 25 opponents, all away from the confines of Death Valley.
Miles will now be forced to look back to his previous two year starter or go with the quarterback who has suddenly resurrected his career.
This will be the true test for a team with National Championship aspirations. Today alone, rumors of Miles to the NFL have arisen, and now the reinstatement of a quarterback who has set this extremely talented team back with a situation, guilty or not, should not have been involved in has been thrust back into the limelight.
Meanwhile, Lee has risen and proven repeatedly that this is his time. Lee bought his time, and his opportunity is now. Let this young man who was once booed off the field lead his team on the path to New Orleans.
