Blackhawks? Jonathan Toews on checking a child: ?It was ugly?

On Monday, we brought you video of Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews accidentally laying out a child with a bodycheck at the Canadian Tire Hockey School, where he was an instructor.

(Not for nothing, but is that not the most Toews-iest reaction you could have ever imagined in a situation like this? "That's not good" ? "hey, don't take pictures of this, c'mon" ? and then they all group hydrate.)

Apparently, Toews had no idea this clip spread like the "Contagion" virus around the Web, because he wondered how Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times was aware of his 'rock'em/sock'em/oh-dear-god-that-was-a-child-wasn't-it?' hockey hit. From the Sun-Times, this was Toews's take on the clip during the opening of Blackhawks training camp on Friday:

"Oh, geez. ... I thought it was funny. [I got ] a million texts, more than anything else that my buddies had ever seen on the internet. They were like, 'Wow, did you learn how to hit over the offseason or something?'

"Nah, he's OK. We were kind of playing a little game of keep away. A kid turned one way and I must have looked away or something and he cut back in. I absolutely had no time to get out of the way. I kind of ran him over. It was ugly."

Toews reiterated that the young player "shook it off." So what happened to the player? Adam Gretz of CBS Eye on Hockey found out:

A camp spokesperson tells us that after taking a brief break during the session, the kid was eventually able to return for the remainder of the practice and that Toews, feeling bad about delivering the accidental open-ice hit, gave the young man an autographed hockey stick when the session was completed.

No word if the child took the stick and smashed it across the bridge of Toews's nose while screaming "OH I'M SORRY, I GUESS I DIDN'T SEE YOU THERE. NOW LET'S GET SOME WATER..."
