Charlie Davies scores as D.C. United ties Toronto FC, repeats as Carolina Challenge Cup champion
Charlie Davies scored in the early moments and D.C. United overcame a second-half deficit Saturday to tie shorthanded Toronto FC, 2-2, securing the Carolina Challenge Cup title for the second consecutive year. In what might've been a preview of United's lineup for next Saturday's MLS opener against the Columbus Crew at RFK Stadium, Davies started for the second time in four days. He played all 90 minutes against the Chicago Fire on Wednesday and paired with Joseph Ngwenya against Toronto before departing at halftime. In the 12th minute, Chris Pontius assisted on Davies's fourth goal in preseason. Toronto drew even nine minutes later on Dwayne De Rosario's penalty kick and went ahead in the 28th when Maicon Santos finished goalkeeper Stefan Frei's long ball. Toronto defender Mikael Yourassowsky was sent off late in the first half after receiving two yellow cards in a two-minute span for taking down United players
