The New England Patriots may have escaped New York with an impressive 37-16 victory over the Jets, but the team suffered one major loss: Pro Bowl cornerback Devin McCourty.
According to multiple sources, McCourty suffered a separated shoulder in Sunday's victory against the Jets.
McCourty suffered the injury in the second quarter after a completed pass to Plaxico Burress where safety Sterling Moore flew hit and smashed right into McCourty's right shoulder. Moore happened to be flagged on the play for unnecessary roughness on Burress, but he also injured his own teammate. McCourty was attended to on the field and did not return.
Sources are indicating that there is no time table on the injury, considering McCourty has yet to have any major tests done on his shoulder but it's safe to expect that he could be out for quite sometime.
Playing in McCourty's place was Antwaun Molden, who was picked up by the Patriots late in the preseason after being cut by the Houston Texans. It should be expected that Molden will likely fill in for McCourty if he should miss anytime with Kyle Arrington lining up as the opposite cornerback for the Patriots.
This has the potential to be a major loss for the Patriots, as the team already has the NFL's worst overall defense and now have lost one of their few Pro Bowls on the defensive side of the ball.
