Grady Sizemore rose to fame with the Cleveland Indians, but after nagging injuries cost him the better part of three seasons, he's looking for a new home. There isn't a better option for Sizemore than the Colorado Rockies and their cavernous home park Coors Field.
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies are willing to take a chance on Sizemore.
But the Rockies have examined his medical records and believe he’s worth the risk on a one-year deal (It will likely take between $5-$6 million given the competition). In fact, the Post has learned the Rockies expect to watch him work out in the coming days.
Knee injuries have sapped Sizemore's speed, which makes a move to Colorado even more intriguing. It would allow him to utilize the spacious outfield gaps to help prove he can still provide a team with meaningful contributions.
Colorado would also shift Sizemore to left field to take some pressure off his knees while Dexter Fowler continues to patrol center.
The most important thing for Sizemore, aside from helping the Rockies win games, would be staying healthy. His deal would be of the one-year variety, so if he's able to play in at least 140 games and have at least moderate production, he'd set himself for a nice payday next winter.
Even though Sizemore's 30-home run, 30-steal days are likely over, there's no reason he can't provide a team with 15 long balls and a handful of steals to go along with an on-base percentage around .330.
With Sizemore, Fowler and Carlos Gonzalez, the Rockies could have one of the league's most dynamic outfield trios. And since Colorado was a disappointment in 2011, winning just 73 games, they should be willing to take some risks to get back in playoff contention.
The two sides seem like a perfect match, and a deal would give Sizemore the best chance to get his career back on track.
