Well, it didn't take that long for the goal-scoring Crosby to return as he gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead 5:24 into the first period:
Of course he was going to score, right? That's kind of how these things typically work in sports. It completely fit the storyline.
If that wasn't enough, Crosby later assisted on Brooks Orpik's second of the season to give Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead after one and put No. 87 just 27 points behind Toronto's Phil Kessel for the scoring lead.

Crosby joked with head coach Dan Bylsma that he'd be good for about 12 minutes Monday night. Through the first period, Crosby took seven shifts and played 7:10, which included three power plays.
