As many of you know, Drew McIntyre is being repackaged as an "arrogant playboy." When I first heard about this new gimmick, I was mixed on how I felt.
I do not see McIntyre being the type of person to be an "arrogant playboy" and when I think about that kind of gimmick, I think of Dolph Ziggler and his gimmick.
But I thought if the WWE turned him into a guy who gets all the divas backstage and turned him into some sort of a player, then it might work. Apparently, the WWE has decided to go in the complete opposite direction.
"...According to fans at this weekend's Smackdown live event in Honduras, Drew appeared to be acting more sexually and flirting with male fans in the crowd, even blowing kisses at some. He also stopped in the middle of his match against Ezekiel Jackson to comb his hair. Drew still lost the match to Zeke."- Lords of Pain
So, the WWE has decided to turn McIntyre in to a gay playboy? This is a terrible idea and who ever came up with it should be fired. In what world does a gay arrogant playboy gimmick sound like a good idea?
Remember when the WWE had Billy, Chuck, and Rico? The gimmick didn't work then and it will not work now. All that gimmick did was make people angry at the WWE.
Today, the WWE always has to watch their step because GLAAD is always looking out for anything offensive to the gay and lesbian community.
The WWE is supposed to be teaming up with GLAAD to stop offensive language and angles in the WWE program but this gimmick seems to be a slap in the face of that partnership.
McIntyre debuted his new gimmick at a house show so maybe the WWE will change things up a little bit before they show this on television, but if not, then this idea will crash and burn.
Before I close, I would just like to make it clear that I do not discriminate towards the gay/lesbian community. This article is not written with the intent to say that being gay is wrong but rather that the WWE thinking a "gay arrogant playboy" gimmick is what McIntyre needs is a mistake.
