"Pink in the Rink" has become a minor league hockey tradition, as the ice is tinted to raise awareness for charity fundraisers.
But when combined with Margaritaville night? It looks like the world's largest frozen adult beverage.
The ECHL Gwinnett Gladiators, an affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers, combined the two promotions this weekend for three games. "Pink in the Rink" will benefit "The Sport of Giving" and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The "Margaritaville Gladiators" sweaters -- modeled here by the team's mascot -- will be auctioned off after Sunday's game to benefit those charities.
Here's a photo of the jerseys in action from Friday night's loss to the Florida Everblades (no stranger to outlandish tropical jersey designs themselves) and a shot of the face-off dots that were turned into beach balls, which is creative … but we wonder what the centers thought.
For a point of reference, here's what the Gladiators usually wear. As you can see, the Margaritaville jerseys are quite a departure. The shark fins are a nice touch; but where's our cheeseburger in paradise?
What say you? (Thanks to the Gladiators for the shots.)
