Puck Headlines: Teemu Selanne update; NHL realignment scenarios

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

? Reminder: New Puck Daddy Photoshop contest for Boston Bruins Cup DVDs and tickets to the premiere. This one from Jonathan Ulman gives you a sense of where it's going for the moment. Details here.

? Good news on the Teemu Selanne front from Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray, as the veteran winger is healing up from arthroscopic surgery. "His kids are at camp and he's out there skating with them," Murray said. "He feels fine. He said, 'Ok, let's talk next week like we always planned. He says he feels fine. He feels good. We'll talk next week." [Ducks Blog]

? The fantasy impact of the Andrew Cogliano trade, from Dobber: "This is the perfect situation for him, because I felt that Saku Koivu is no longer a full-time second-line center. He is best suited for a second/third hybrid role." [Dobber Hockey]

? New Dallas Stars defenseman Sheldon Souray on Edmonton: "I guess it's just not a place that's attractive to go to, for whatever reason ?" [Cult of Hockey]

? Jonathan Toews on the Chicago Blackhawks not playing in Winnipeg during the Jets' inaugural season: "It kind of sucks," Toews told reporters. "It does suck. Write that down." [Sun]

? Here are three realignment scenarios from the Toronto Star. One of them involves a format in which there's something called the Canadian Conference and something else called the Sunshine Conference. Also, this is the second Canadian publication this summer to claim that Denver is in Wyoming. [Toronto Star]

? Here's a fun game of telephone: TSN picked up a report by the Grand Rapids Press about the Winnipeg Jets being realigned to the Central Division next season, which the Press got from SB Nation, which got SB Nation got from Pro Hockey Talk, which PHT got from an interview by Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold on KFAN in Minneapolis on July 7, which QMI reported was actually an interview on Monday, July 11 because (a) QMI probably didn't listen to it before reporting on it and (b) they're only reporting it now because TSN did. Whew!

? Dustin Jeffrey re-signs with the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2-year, 2-way deal worth $575,000 on average. [Penguins]

? Mike Zigomanis re-ups with the Toronto Maple Leafs. [NHL.com]

? Vincent Damphousse is back in court on assault charges. [CBC]

? Former Calgary Flames player Brett Sutter pled guilt to punching a cabbie and face a fine of 20 cents, er, $323.60 U.S. [Postmedia]

? Lou Lamoriello says a New Jersey Devils coaching announcement will not happen this week. Just say "Larry Robinson" and be done with it. [NHL.com]

? The Devils are trying to get top pick Adam Larsson signed before a Friday deadline. Also, it appears he might become the first Devils player to wear No. 36. [Fire & Ice]

? It's official: Rick Jeanneret and Harry Neale will call 57 of the Buffalo Sabres' games this season, including only 18 road games. [Sabres]

? Interesting look at the players who left the New York Islanders during the Garth Snow regime. [Lighthouse Hockey]

? If the season started today, Patrick Sharp would be the Chicago Blackhawks' second-line center. [Between the Circles]

? Are we witnessing the demise of the Phoenix Coyotes on the ice and off the ice? [THN]

? Beer Wars update: The NHL and Molson Coors won a court battle that allowed their $375 million sponsorship deal to go through. Then Labatt struck back by announcing "Budweiser beer will become official sponsor of three Canadian NHL teams ? the Vancouver Canucks, the Calgary Flames and the reformed Winnipeg Jets ? starting Oct. 5." [CP]

? Finally, we've been saying this for years: The best way to sell the game is through cheesy impromptu sing-a-longs of "Top Gun" soundtrack ballads.
