Finally we see something other than a short play to the outside. Beckham misses the first grab but pulls in the second one for a gain of 19 and, gasp, a first down! And then an in between the tackles run! Holy halftime adjustments, Batman!
But of course the Tigers’ burst wouldn’t last forever. Jefferson got sacked by Courtney Upshaw and he couldn’t find an open receiver which makes the team 0-for-6 on third down conversions. While this drive didn’t end well, having the biggest play of the night is a good sign.
LSU has been a second half team all season, not gaining a single first down in the SEC Championship game but exploded for 35 points and 13 first downs. That said, Alabama is not Georgia. Down by two touchdowns, things have to get going quickly or it will be too little too late.
