Little League World Series 2011: Home-Field Controversy Has No Solution

The 16th team to punch their ticket to the Little League World Series has less than 30 minutes to travel to get there. The homefield advantage controversy for Keystone may give them a slight advantage over teams who have had to travel thousands of miles to arrive at Williamsport, but those who are up in arms would be incapable of coming up with a better solution.

The LLWS couldn't very well relocate to avoid such a scenario. Not only is it not going to be an overwhelming factor in play, it's illogical to move the entire event to a desolate location to avoid a team having a potential advantage.

The tournament features 16 elite Little League teams. Whether this game is played in Antarctica or Tahiti, these kids are going to come to play. That being said, with competition so closely knit, any sort of advantage, albeit slight, can be a determining factor.

Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing that can be done to do away with this issue. Teams win from near and far all the time. The travel time is obviously a disadvantage, but the best team always seems to rise to the surface, regardless of location.

Clearly if a team had a choice between flying thousands of miles or a quick drive, they would take the latter. It creates some adversity for the rest of the teams, but this isn't something to get too overly excited about.

Should Keystone win, people can rant and all they want. The fact of the matter is, it will be in vain. There is no perfect venue for this tournament.
