Puck Headlines: Savard could be shut down; Stortini on waivers

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• All they found were license plates, an old boot and this woman after the stomach was opened ... [Getty]

• Tonight's game between Colorado and St. Louis has been postponed due to inclement weather. Surprising ... you'd figure with a team named the Avalanche in town, the bar would be rather high for weather-related cancellation. [Avs]

• The Edmonton Oilers place enforcer Zack Stortini on waivers: Said Coach Tom Renney: "Under these circumstances, our young guys have done well. They've earned themselves further opportunity and now we have some unhealthy guys getting healthy and they need to get back in the lineup. So it falls into the category of a numbers thing and we needed to make a move." How ironic would it be if Stortini needed a hug right now? [Sun]

Carolina Hurricanes center Eric Staal, Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick and New York Islanders right wing Michael Grabner have been named the NHL 'Three Stars' for the week ending Jan. 30. [NHL]

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Kris Versteeg claims his $150,000 Audi R8 was "vandalized" recently. Vandalized in his world meaning "messages written in dust" and "spat upon." Me thinks someone should take Mr. Versteeg on a tour of the Bronx one day, for some context on "vandalized." [National Post via JDA]

• Here we go again: Tomas Kaberle is open to waiving his no-trade clause. [Toronto Sun]

• The great Ian Walker tracks down Bo Jackson to talk about Ray Emery's recovery from avascular necrosis and months of rehab on his hip. "It takes a very, very special and driven person. He's got to have a different makeup to want to do all the little things he needs to do to compete on a professional level." [Vancouver Sun]

• "The Buffalo Sabres today announced that Tom Golisano has reached an agreement to sell the Buffalo Sabres and its related companies to Terry Pegula. The agreement, completed at 1 p.m. today, is subject to certain closing conditions including review and approval by the National Hockey League. It is expected the NHL review process will take several weeks to complete." Seriously, congrats to Sabres fans. In case you haven't been able to tell, we're rather fond of Mr. Pegula around here. [Sabres]

• Meanwhile, intrigue from Coach Lindy Ruff, who said he was offered and rejected a contract extension that his general manager accepted. [Buffalo News]

Patrik Elias sympathizes with Phil Kessel, and wasn't a fan of the draft: "I didn't enjoy it (much). The fans and media enjoy it. Whoever is going last is going to hear it for a long time. It's not right. The guys are top players and you don't want to put guys in that position." You know who else enjoyed it? The NHLPA, which signed off on it, which is the only reason there was a "last pick." [Star Ledger

• He's leading them in ice time, but don't go calling Alex Edler a No. 1 defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks. [Pass It To Bulis]

• From Elliotte Friedman's blog: "We all know the all-star game will never be perfect. However, I do think the NHL - whether intentionally or not - hit on a couple of keys to make the event more enjoyable to those in attendance. First, load up with the hometown team. It worked in Montreal, it worked in Raleigh. Second, invite as many newcomers as possible. Those playing in their first or second games enjoy it a lot more than repeaters, and it makes a difference. For next year, I would target players like Tomas Plekanec, Jordan Eberle or Ryan Callahan. Maybe they wouldn't be your first choices, but they would appreciate the invitation." [CBC Sports]

Jonas Hiller wants you to prepare the ship for ludicrous speed. [The Royal Half]
